MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS DURING PREGNANCY

  1. SCOLIOSIS - the lateral curvature of the spine which leads to deformity and interference with respiration and heart action;
  • Distorted pelvis requires cesarean delivery.
  • Woman may wear Milwaukee Brace to strengthen and straighten spine.
2. KNEE CARTILAGE DISORDERS
  • During pregnancy, all body cartilages soften; knee dislocation can occur.
  • Women who have history of knee injury must be reevaluated early in pregnancy and may need to wear knee support/immobilizer during the last trimester until delivery.
