VENTRICULAR ANEURYSM

  • It involves thinning, ballooning and hypokinesis of the ventricular wall after a transmural MI.
  • The dysfunctional area often becomes filled with necrotic debris and clot and sometimes is rimmed by the calcium ring.
  • The debris or clot may fragment and travel into the systemic arterial circulation, therby embolization.
  • The aneurysm may rupture causing cardiac tamponade and death.
