HUMAN SEXUAL RESPONSE

*Sex is the act of copulation; termed coitus.

*Sexual Response cycle has 4 stages:


1. Excitement
  • Occurs with physical and psychologic stimulation and venous constriction.
  • In women, clitoris increases in size, vaginal lubrication, nipples become erect, increase BP, HR and RR.
  • In men, penile reaction, scrotal thickening, elevation of testes, and increased BP, HR and RR.
2. Plateau
  • Reached just before orgasm.
  • For women: formation of orgasmic platform, increased nipple engorgement.
  • In men: there's full distention of the penis.
3. Orgasm
  • The discharged of accumulated sexual tension; shortest stage.
  • An intense pleasure affecting the whole body, highly personal experience.
4. Resolution
  • The period during which the external and internal genital organs return to an unaroused state.
*During second half of menstrual cycle, plateau stage is reached more quickly and achieve orgasm more readily.

*During pregnancy, increase interest in sex, and the increased breast engorgement may result to extreme breast sensitivity during coitus.
