ECTOPIC PREGNANCY

  • Pregnancy that occur in extrauterine area with implantation usually occurring in ampulla of the fallopian tubes/outer third portion.
  • Manifestations include unilateral, cramping pain and tenderness before rupture; nausea and vomiting occasional before rupture and frequent after; mass in adnexia or culde sac; slight dark red vaginal bleeding; leukocytosis, low hemoglobin and hematocrit, elevated ESR.
  • Diagnosis made by laparoscopy and ultrasound.
  • May result to maternal and fetal death and infertility.
  • Provide preventive measures for shock and administer antibiotics and Rhogam as needed.
