- Procedure done for early detection of developing mass or growths; done every 7 days after menses.
- Procedures:
- Stand in front of the mirror and look at each breast to see if there's a lump or depression, a difference in skin texture, or any other changes. Be especially alert for any changes in the nipples' appearance. Raise both arms and check for any swelling or dimpling in the skin of the breast.
- Lie down with a pillow under the right shoulder and put the right arm behind head. With the pads of the fingers of the left hand, make firm, circular movements over each quadrant and feel for any lumps or tenderness. When you reach the upper outer quadrant, continue towards the armpit.
- Feel the nipple for any change in size and shape. Squeeze the nipple to see if there is any discharge.
