DYSRHYTHMIAS

Abnormal cardiac rhythms which are due to the following:
  1. Tissue Ischemia
  2. Hypoxemia
  3. SNS and PNS influences
  4. Lactic acidosis
  5. Hemodynamic abnormalities
  6. Drug toxicity
  7. Electrolyte imbalances
  • These are due to abnormal automaticity, abnormal duction or both.
  • The most common complication and most major cause of death among clients with MI.
  • The most common dysrhythmia in MI is Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVC.
  • PVC's of 6 or more per minute is life-threatening.
Pathophysiology of PVC:

COMMON DYSRHYTHMIAS AFTER MI:
1. Sinus

  • Sinus Tachycardia
  • Sinus Bradycardia
  • Sinus Dysrhythmia
  • Sick Sinus Syndrome

2. Atrial

  • Premature atrial contraction
  • Paroxysmal atrial tachycardia
  • Atrial Flutter
  • Atrial Fibrillation

3. Ventricular

  • Premature ventricular contractions
  • Ventricular Bigeminy
  • Ventricular fibrillation
  • Ventricular tachycardia

4. Conduction defects

  • First Degree AV Block
  • Second Degree AV Block
  • Third Degree AV Block
